The name “Tatzelwurm” is made up of Tatze, meaning “paw” or “claw” depending on the context, and Wurm, “worm,” suggesting that the Tatzelwurm is a “half-dragon” with a snake-like abdomen with four short legs or two front legs.
Is also known as “tunnel worm” or “mining tunnel dragon” in the Bernese Alps .
